5 Christmas Dinner Hacks
Parboil your roast potatoes + freeze
You could do this a month in advance! How’s that for the start of your Christmas dinner hacks? Parboil your potatoes and then coat in the fat you are using. Leave them to cool and place in a freezer bag.
On Christmas day all you will have to do is heat some fat in a dish in the oven and then cook your frozen spuds for approx 40mins.
Make your stuffing and freeze
Who doesn’t love some meat stuffing with their turkey? I know from experience that this can be time-consuming to make, and also isn’t quite as good if you buy it ready-made. It’s time to save some of your precious Christmas day.
Make your stuffing as far ahead of time as you want and freeze it in a suitable dish that can go in the freezer AND the oven. Defrost your stuffing in the fridge before the big day and simply pop in the oven when needed.
Cranberry + Bread sauce
You can make these yourself, or buy them already made because shop versions are actually an ok substitute. If you insist on making your own, here is what you can do to shave off some time spent in the kitchen.
Cranberry sauce will keep for up to a week in an airtight container in the fridge. Bread sauce can be made and frozen up to 1 month beforehand and simply needs defrosting and reheating on the day.
Yorkshire puddings
There are two ways that you can save time with your Yorkshire puddings, get ready for double Christmas dinner hacks.
One way is too simply make the batter mix the night before and place in the fridge ready for the next day. The second is to cook your Yorkshire puddings in your tin, allow to cool completely and seal them in a ziplock bag before placing in the freezer. They will only need approximately 5 minutes in the oven on Christmas day.
Prepare all your veg!
I wouldn’t suggest pre-boiling and then reheating on the day as this can turn your veg to mush. No one wants soggy carrots! Instead, chop, peel and whatever else you need to do to them, the night before. Leave them in a cool place to prevent them from drying out.
Some veg will start to turn brown, so I suggest leaving those in water
