With recent events, Knowing how to talk about racial equality is a topic that is of extreme importance. It is important that we teach our children about equality and diversity so that we do not have another generation that grows up not understanding equality and inequality.
It is your job as a parent to make sure you educate about equality and diversity within the world and in your local community. Knowing how to talk about equality and diversity is really important, so I’ve done some digging and found 5 free resources to help you.
How to Talk about Racial Equality with your Kids
I understand that this can be a sensitive subject to talk about and you might not have a clue on where to start or how to word things. What you do need to know though is how to talk about racial equality, because I understand that this may not come naturally to you.
There is no judgement from me on what your current beliefs and mindset are, but I urge you to talk to your children and family about what is equality and inequality and ways that you can help to stop racism. Educate yourself so that you can pass that knowledge to your children.

I loved this article! It is written specifically for parents of all races to talk to their children of all ages about race, equality and inequality. It has some super simple tips on how to implement them in your life to make sure that discussing race is an open conversation and not one that is awkward or taboo.

Healthy Children has focussed on how children understand at different ages. I think this is really helpful to understand how children process information about what they see and hear. Knowing how to talk about racial equality
in a way that is appropriate for each age is very important so that you know they can understand and feel part of the conversation.

This article is a little wordier than the others, but still equally important to have a read. They give a great example of how to make the topic more relatable for kids who may not have been around different cultures. This article also addresses the thing that most parents dread! The naively curious questions and remarks about people in the loudest voice they have. THIS article will help you navigate those situations to turn their curiosity into answers.

This post sections out how to talk to kids from 6 months-8 years about race. This is great if you have no idea where to start or think that maybe your little one is too young to start to have the discussion. With more ideas for each age range as well as different ways of explaining things.
I have found these resources really helpful to read through and I know this is going to enable me to have the answers to questions that my kids might ask me. The biggest bonus being able to reply in a way that they will understand for their age.
This is obviously not an exhaustive list of resources. Each of the links above has its own resources that they link to. This is such an important subject, and as parents, we really do have an impact on how the next generation forms and sculpts their beliefs and views. Knowing how to talk about racial equality is the first step, discussing it is the next.
