How frustrating is it when you write your food shopping list, go food shopping, or get it delivered and you end up with another four cans of baked beans when you already have 5 cans and forget to buy butter when you have none? Yea, me too!! I swear I went through this weird phase of just constantly thinking we needed baked beans?!
I blame it on the baby brain, even though she’s 5 months old now…
That’s when I decided we needed a ‘we’ve run out of’ list. You can keep them in your planner, your journal or on the fridge. The fridge is probably the easiest place to actually remember to write on it and then remember to look at it while you’re writing your food shopping list. I keep one in my food shopping list book. That’s right I have a whole book dedicated to the good ol’ food shopping list.

What is it and How to Use it?
The ‘We’ve run out of list’ is basically a list that has a lot of common food shopping items and spaces to write your own ones on there as well.
To use this handy little list simply tick off items as you run out of them, or write down your item and then tick it off.
Then, when you come to write your shopping list you can use your ‘we’ve run out of’ list to quickly jot down all the things you regularly buy and use.

The Benefits of your food shopping list + budget
- It will save you time because you’ll already know what you have run out of
- It will help to stop you impulse buying because you have a list written
- Your food shopping list won’t include items you already have
- The ‘we’ve run out of’ list will show you what you use the most and least. You can either shop around to see if you can get that item for cheaper or in bulk. If you’re using it the least, you could re-evaluate if you really need that item or not.
- You can easily keep track of your budget because you are not buying multiples of items.
Does your family need one of these lists to help with the food shopping list? I know mine did desperately. By using the ‘we’ve run out of’ list I easily save 20 minutes when writing out my food shopping list. It also allows me to keep within our budget at the moment. Living off of one salary isn’t easy, but it is doable with some proper planning.
