I’ve heard, seen and read A LOT about dinner themes recently. Since starting to Meal Plan consistently for my family, deciding what to cook and when can get tiresome and difficult. So, here are some alternative dinner themes for your weeknight dinners. No more ‘Taco Tuesday’ or ‘Meatless Mondays’. I felt that those sort of dinner themes limited me

Weeknight Dinner Themes
Mum Picks Monday
It’s Monday, and your probably the one who is doing the cooking. So why shouldn’t you get to pick a dinner that you want to have? truth is if you’re really looking forward to eating it, cooking it won’t seem like a chore either which leads to a much more stress-free evening.
Dad’s Turn Tuesday
Whether this means he’s cooking, or he gets to choose. I think it’s always important to let everyone have a say in what’s getting cooked for dinner. It also helps the kids learn that they can’t always have what they want for tea and it gets them trying lots of different foods.
Kids Choice Wednesday
It’s only fair, isn’t it? perfect for that mid-week chaos that also seems to happen. I know if I give my 3-year-old the choice of what he would like for dinner at the moment, it would be sandwiches. Why I don’t know, but he has this thing about sandwiches at the moment, and why not? it’s quick and easy to have lunch for dinner!
Take Out Thursday
Take-out doesn’t have to be reserved for Friday nights or the weekends. Mix it up and have it on Thursday instead. This is usually when I’m feeling the most tired from the week, the weekend is so nearly here, so Friday is usually a relief.
Free Friday
Use those leftovers! Zap them in the microwave and you’ll have dinner in minutes. Which actually means two nights in a row that you don’t have to cook, pretty great huh?
Super Quick Saturday
Even for someone like myself who enjoys cooking, I don’t really want to spend hours in the kitchen on a Saturday. It’s the only full day of the week that we get at home together, so I prefer to do something quick, but tasty on these days. It also helps if you plan to go out for the day, as you are less restricted by time and if you know that the dinner you have is only going to take 20 minutes, you’ll be less likely to reach for those takeaway menus.
Family Day Sunday
Roast dinners (or your families own favourite) are a must for a Sunday. It’s usually the only day that the whole family sits down for a meal mid-afternoon, but it’s my favourite to do. It also leaves lots of time for family time for the rest of the day which is also very important.
