Christmas is a consuming holiday, in time, money and sanity. A lot of the time we are bombarded with ‘stuff’ afterwards that we have received as gifts and although we aren’t ungrateful most of it never gets used.
Updated for 2020
It’s always nice for you to buy useful or sentimental gifts for people, something I know that they will use and appreciate. Below I have listed 11 gifts that aren’t just ‘stuff’. These range from donating money to charities, subscription boxes and sentimental gifts.
This is not an exhaustive list of gifts, but a good starting point for anyone that’s stuck on what to give this Christmas. Gifts don’t always have to cost money either, remember that. Below are my thoughts for gifts that aren’t just stuff.
Have you been procrastinating with buying gifts? Do not panic! I have found a great way that you can get amazing deals as well as free next day delivery! It’s not going to cost you anything extra either. Just sign up for the Amazon Prime FREE 30-day trial for the Christmas period. Christmas sorted!
Subscription:
A subscription is a great idea if you know they are really interested in something or regularly use a certain thing. This means that you know it’s going to get used and enjoyed. Some ideas for subscription gifts are:
-
Birch Box (This link will get you £5 off a subscription too!)
-
Coffee and Book Club Subscription
-
Friday Night Curry Subscription
Sponsoring:
My grandparents used to donate money to Oxfam for my birthday or Christmas. I would then get a card saying that the money donated would go towards a water pump or a donkey or something good and useful for people less fortunate. This was always a nice gift because I knew that someone else was benefitting from my gift, instead of being bought something I wouldn’t use. Some ideas are:
-
Charities (Such as Oxfam)
-
Animals ( at Colchester zoo?)
Days out:
A day out is a perfect gift because instead of gaining something physical, you have the chance to make some really great memories with the people you love, doing something you have either never done before or absolutely love!
Sentimental Gifts:
Give a person you care about a sentimental gift or a collection of memories. It’s the sort of gift that can be kept and looked at to remember a person, a moment or a lifetime.
I LOVE giving and receiving this type of gift because it also shows that a lot of time and thought has been put into the gift. You could gift:
-
photo-collages, photobooks or photographic based gifts (Photobox is the best value and quality I have found)
-
Letters, this could be in the form of ‘Open When’ letters, or just letters you’d like to write.
-
A trip to a place that means a lot to that person or to you both.
