Hey mama-to-be! How are you feeling now? I bet your relieved the first trimester is over and you feel like you can start enjoying your pregnancy a little bit. Don’t get me wrong, there are some second trimester symptoms, but fingers crossed your morning sickness will disappear and the need to wee every five seconds will also disappear for a while.
There is a reason that so many find the second trimester the most enjoyable. Take a read of each week and discover how big your baby will grow and some of the changes you can expect during these next couple of months. Oh, and don’t worry, some of these changes are positive!
Second Trimester Symptoms and Size Guide.
14 Weeks- Lemon
If you are feeling a little more energetic and more like yourself, that’s because you are in the second trimester now. Your baby is as big as a lemon and the placenta is providing your baby with the nutrients they need, that means more energy for you! These next few months are when you are really going to start looking pregnant. YAY!
15 Weeks- Apple
Your bubba is really growing now, and not only are they growing in size, but everything else is developing and maturing all the time. Now that you’re out of the first trimester, I’m afraid it doesn’t mean your symptom-free. One of the marvellous things you can look forward is wind, yup, you heard me right. It’s totally the hormones fault, but maybe lay off foods that make you gassy for a while.

16 Weeks- Avocado
Now that your baby is over 4inches long you might get to feel those little kicks of theirs as they wriggle around. They might feel more like flutters for a little while, however, each day they will get stronger and stronger. During the second trimester, you do get some good pregnancy symptoms too! You’ll start to get that pregnancy glow you always hear people talk about.
17 Weeks- Pear
As your bump grows bigger some aches and pains are bound to happen. Backache is going to be the main one. This is because your starting to carry a rapidly growing baby on your front, which is going to be putting a strain on your lower back. Some good supportive shoes and putting your feet up in the evening will definitely help with this.
The Second Trimester is the Perfect Time to Pamper Yourself and Relax.
18 Weeks- Sweet Potato
Awww, we always imagined our baby the size of a sweet potato, didn’t we?! Not only are you going to start aching, but you’ll also probably be getting a little itchy as well. I know, it’s not something we expect, but as our skin stretches it makes it itch a little. There are some amazing moisturisers out there to help with this. My favourite that I used both pregnancies is Palmers Cocoa Butter for Stretch Marks amazing! It lasts forever too!
19 Weeks- Mango
At 19 weeks, you could well be lucky and not be experiencing the aches and pains of pregnancy. Orrrr, you could be the not so lucky one. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for the next few months, these are only going to get worse. There are, of course, things that you can do to help lessen them and make you more comfortable in general. Talk to your midwife about the solutions that you can find.
20 Weeks- Banana
This is the week! If you’re finding out if you’re having a boy or girl, then this is when you’re finding out. The second, and possibly last time you’ll get to see your little one before the big day. This week is bound to be filled with nerves and excitement as you prepare to finally know if your bump is a boy or girl. Of course, all ultrasounds can be nerve-wracking because it is also how they check that everything is going as it should with your pregnancy and with your baby. It’s ok to be nervous, enjoy the moment.
21 Weeks- Carrot
You might start to get heartburn at this point. This can be down to the foods that you eat, so try and keep a note of what might cause it. It’s also because as your baby grows, you get less space in your abdomen. It’s crazy to think that you are half way through now? Now might be a good idea to plan your baby shower if you’re having one.

22 Weeks- Papaya
Even though your baby and bump are now growing more and more every day, it doesn’t mean that you are eating for two. I mean, technically you are, but you don’t need double the amount of calories. Focus on healthy and whole foods that are going to keep you fueled, healthy and importantly give your baby all the nutrients that they need.
23 Weeks- Aubergine
WOW! How big? Your baby could weigh over a pound by week 23. You may have heard of Braxton Hicks. Well, these are great fun, especially if you’re not sure what actual contractions feel like. Braxton Hicks are practise contractions, but they don’t mean you’re going into labour. Unless they get stronger and develop a pattern, you don’t need to phone the hospital just yet. Remember this is only one of the second trimester symptoms, and probably way too early for you to go into labour, it’s just your body practising for the main event. Ring your midwife if you’re worried about anything, they will put your mind to rest.
24 Weeks- An Ear of Corn
An ear of corn? They’re pretty big, aren’t they? Well, so is your baby. Have you picked out the perfect name yet? Or are you waiting until you see their tiny little face to make that decision? Either way, I’m sure you have a big to-do list before your baby arrives. Take it slow and steady as you’ll definitely be feeling a little achy by now.
25 Weeks- Swede
This may be around the time that you feel the need to pee, all the time, again. I’m sorry, but I did mention you would only get a rest from it for a while. Your baby now probably weighs close to 1.5lbs! The great thing about the second trimester is you get this burst of energy, which is handy because of everything that needs to be done in preparation for your baby arrives.
26 Weeks- Courgette
You’re nearly 6 months pregnant at this point and your baby is now starting to develop senses. Soon you might get a response to your voice! How many times have you blamed things on pregnancy or baby brain? Yup, those hormones are wreaking havoc with you right now, and I’m sorry to say that it doesn’t get any better once they are born!

27-Cauliflower
This is the last week of your second trimester and you are officially on the home straight now! At nearly 2lbs in weight, you are sure to be feeling the strain on your back, legs, feet and bladder! Don’t worry, you haven’t got long left to go now! Make sure your getting plenty of rest and getting some self-care in as well. It’s not all about the baby yet, so take this time to give yourself a little pregnancy-safe pampering.
