A fun Halloween food idea does not have to be difficult and they also do not have to have a lot of required skill to make.
Updated for 2020
This idea is perfect for Halloween party food.
It is also easy enough to make some spooky Halloween treats with your toddler or young children. These are no-bake Halloween food ideas. (perfect for me, as my baking skill is something never to brag about!)
I first decided to try some Halloween food ideas because I wanted to be able to make something with my 2-year-old, and what better than sweets!
For this Easy No-Bake Halloween food idea, you only need 6 ingredients
- 8 Rice Krispie Squares
- 1 Pack of strawberry laces
- 1 Pack Edible eyes
- Decorative Silver Balls (optional)
- Two large bars of White Chocolate
- Green food colouring
Or alternatively, you can buy green candy melts if you want a runny consistency.
Any leftover chocolate, Rice Krispie squares or strawberry laces are obviously just an added bonus treat!
First things first. Break up the chocolate into a bowl. Then melt slowly with lots of stirring until all the lumps are gone (unless you want you some added gruesomeness to your Halloween desserts?)
While that’s melting, cut the strawberry laces into various lengths. If you have older children, this could be their job!
Line a baking sheet with baking parchment, so your Halloween monster treats have somewhere to cool and set without getting stuck.
The next step is where my Halloween monster treats did not go to plan…..although it turned out to make it easier for my toddler to decorate.
Mix a few teaspoons of green food colouring to the chocolate and stir. You may notice that the chocolate starts to thicken into a paste. Originally, this was not intended. I did find however it made it easier to stick decorations in to.
Spread the chocolate onto each of the Rice Krispie squares and you have the basis of your No-Bake Halloween Food idea, whether it’s for a party, for fun or just as a spooky dessert.
You can then let the kids loose with the decorations. My toddler decided that he wanted to take a bite out of nearly each one he decorated. Which he found hilarious!
Here’s a glimpse of my particularly un-frightening Halloween treat.
Place all the monsters onto the greaseproof paper once you’re done and place in the fridge to chill.
TA-DAH!
It’s quick, easy, no skill required and it’s fun to do with the kids. We made Halloween desserts, in our Christmas pyjamas at the end of September. talk about mixing holidays! It kept us occupied and smiling for 45 minutes though, which is a big win, for those of you that have children will know.
If your baking/ decorating skills are a bit more advanced than mine, or you want a themed Halloween dessert.
